THE KLEAU SEQUENCES WORD SCORE
THE KLEAU SEQUENCES WORD SCORE
Unlike the first two installments which are literal transcriptions of the historical I Ching sequences, Vol. 3 moves into the realm of the 10,000 myriad things, and is part serialized, part aleatoric, and uses a modified 12-Tone system. Instead of the notation that Kleau developed for Vol. 1 & 2, there’s just a short word score, and I think he’s being a bit cagey but whatever…
I. Obtain the A sequence:
-Write the 64 hexagrams onto cards and give them a full casino style shuffle.
-Throw the 64 cards on the floor and pick them up.
-Put the stack of cards outside, let the wind scatter them, then gather them back up.
To obtain the tone row:
-Write the 12 notes on 12 cards and follow the above procedure.
II. Obtain the B Sequence:
-Throw the coins 384 times, do the yarrow stalk ritual 64 times, or open the book to a random page 64 times (or any combination of the above). The main difference between methods A & B is that in A all the hexagrams will appear once, and in B some will appear more than once and others not at all. I didn’t calculate exactly what the chances are of all of them appearing once, but it’s definitely slim.
-Obtain the tone row the same way as Sequence A.
III. Obtain the C Sequence:
-Come up with some rules for obtaining the sequence and tone row but don’t tell anyone what they are.
*For the bridges, the players choose whatever they want.
**Dynamics follow the same rules as Vol. 1 & 2
